That sounds very unpleasant, though it does sound like you are out of that situation now at least.
That's got to be tough, especially if that's not the way you want things to be.
I wish I had more knowledge or was better at finding resources. I'm sure there are plenty of things out there to help with decision making, being more assertive, standing on your own, and knowing how to deal with strong personalities, but I wouldn't know where to point you. That's assuming that this is something you want to change, and have spoons to spare for of course. Which you definitely don't need to, change can be big and hard and the people that say "It's easy, things will be better" make me mad, because it's really not easy and it's not always so clear that the change is worth it.
(Sorry for the rambling, I kind of suck at words, and I'm always worried I'm going to accidentally say something to upset or offend people.)
