First, the big machines dig a hole in the ground,
great mounds of dirt get piled in many bins;
concrete gets poured to make the base safe and sound.
The walls come next, pounding tools make quite the din.
The roof goes on, we are making progress now;
the electrical and plumbing are done, wow!
Paint goes on, the furnishings find their places.
Ready to move in, see the happy faces.

Come Knit With Me

Just a little bit camera shy,
the first video is a little halting.
Hands steady as they knit,
voice stumbling every now and then.

not quite comfortable yet,
though that will come in time.

Hands steady as they knit
a simple stitch for the first scarf;
the bright yarn speaks for itself.

not quite sure what to say
but looking forward to doing this again.

Bingo fill: a Rondeau

Writing this rondeau for the "starting a major project" square on the Public Activities Card for Fresh Starts Bingo Fest was a bit tricky, but I think I made it work.

Building Something Better

It's going to be a lot of work
but it's not something we can shirk.
If everyone will lend a hand,
the good will spread across the land.
Find not the downside, but the perk.

The wealthy and aloof we will irk;
our generosity they think a quirk,
but the middle class can withstand
a lot of work.

Too many souls are left to lurk
in the shadows, faced with fate's cruel smirk.
It's time to begin something grand,
reaching out to help without demand;
improving quality of life is worth
a lot of work.

INVENTION

Imagination is the first step.
Next comes ideas that turn into a plan.
Various things are tried before it comes out right,
Excitement when it finally works.
New things are so much fun to make
Though many steps happen behind the scenes,
Iterations never seen outside the shop,
Only the perfected piece being shown to the world before a
New idea strikes, and we're off again!

Recipe: Bean Salad Wraps

I'm on afternoons this week, so I decided to make a lunch type food this time.

I used Dempsters Ancient Grains tortillas, a jalapeno pepper, original Miracle Whip, and added abput two tablespoons of onions (because I had them in the fridge and needed to use them).

All in all, it was a pretty tasty mix. A little spicy but not overly so, and I think the onions played well with the other ingredients. I could definitely taste the "greeness" of the cilantro, so if you don't like that flavour, I advise leaving it out. I wasn't sure if Miracle Whip would work for this purpose, but it blended well with everything and I think the lime juice helped keep it from being too heavy.

This recipe was good as is, but it is fairly basic, so I imagine it would hold up to experimentation rather well. I'm happy I decided to make it, and it may be a good one to keep in the back of my mind for when I want something easy to make and relatively healthy.
