Weekly Update
May. 30th, 2024 05:42 pmWell, I missed last weeks update all together, so this week's shall be a double update; now to see if I remember everything. First, the mundane. Both weeks have been fairly standard with nothing exciting happening. I did alright on my daily goals but I missed more than I would have liked. I finally purchased and planted the annuals for my flower beds, but I still need to find some perennials and possibly some vegetables. I also finished knitting my dishcloth, though I haven't made any more progress on my basket, nor have I started a baby blanket yet. I also haven't read any of my next book, although that is because I have been re-reading a massive fanfiction, which also probably contributed to the lower than ideal goal completion.
Second, the fun. While the last two weeks might have been mundane verging on boring, the weekends were not. On the 18th and 19th, I went to Point Pelee (a national park) with my boyfriend, then we stayed at an AirBnB, then on the Sunday we hung out together and walked around one of the local towns that tends towards scenic/historical. As that was also the Canadian long weekend, I had Monday off and was able to just chill for a while. The weather was great on the weekend and all in all it was a great time.
This past weekend, the 25th and 26th was also a lot of fun. On the Saturday, I went to the states to watch the Tigers vs Blue Jays baseball game with some coworkers. It was a good game, though I was melting a bit in the sun. After the game, I met up with my mom and her friends who happened to be there as well, then we all went for drinks together. On Sunday, I went to a Provincial Park with my sister, then spent time with my boyfriend in the evening. The park was fun, although the trails were a little boring and the beach was super windy and a bit chill. I'm still glad we went though, since it was a good day.
Not related to the weekends but still a fun thing; I dyed my hair and got it cut. The colour isn't quite what I expected but it is very nice, and I'm happy with the way the cut turned out. I may go with a different colour next time, or I may try this one again to see if I can get better results.
Third, the nerdy. Recently I have found bardcore music, which I'm enjoying quite a lot. There are some songs that are sung with a medieval slant but still in modern English, while others are in ancient/dead languages like Latin and Old English. One of my favourites is Boulevard of Broken Dreams sung in Latin; I can almost sing along to the whole thing. There are a bunch of other ones, though I've linked three of my favourites below.

Somebody That I Used to Know - Gotye - covered by Hildegard von Blingin'

Also, if you like sea shantys and other Irish songs, check out Colm R. McGuinness on youtube; I like him a lot. Just be mindful of what you click on, as some of the songs he covers have IRA slant to them, if that sort of thing will bother you.
Roll Northumbria - The Dreadnoughts (sea shanty) - covered by Colm R. McGuinness

I hope you all are doing well and staying safe. See you again next week!
