Weekly Update

Well, I've been reading a massive Harry Potter fanfic since I found
ysabetwordsmith's Snowflake Challenge fiction recs, so I haven't gotten as much sleep as I should have this week. The story is reeaally compelling though, and I don't want to stop reading. Other accomplishments this week include a bit of work on entries, cooking on Monday, doing *some* of the dishes, finishing my January book, and working on my scarf.
I'm a bit tired and out of focus right now, so I'm sure there are things I want to say that I'm forgetting, but I will talk a bit about the last few NCIS episodes. I'm going to try to keep it as spoiler free as possible, but if you haven't seen it and want to, I recommend skipping the rest of this paragraph. So, last week was the first new episode since their Christmas break, and they did back to back new ones. The first episode wasn't really anything special, though it did give us more of what was their ongoing long-term arc. The second episode is when they finally concluded that arc, and explained the very dramatic, and alarming, teaser in the season premiere. It was nice to finally have everything wrapped up, but holy cow was it ouch. Team leader Gibbs had to take some very drastic action to keep his Agent McGee from getting to close to a plane that was about to explode. McGee couldn't just be warned because the bomb material was throwing off radio interference and killed McGee's com, but not Gibbs'. It ends with the viewers uncertain if McGee will be okay, and the rest of the team shocked by what Gibbs did (and musing to themselves that he was unphased by what he did).
Now, I think the agents were wrong about Gibbs. I don't think Gibbs was unphased by what he had to do to McGee, but he is a retired Marine, a seasoned agent, and very much a gruff, non-talkative, "Feelings are the enemy" kind of guy. Even if he IS phased by what he had to do, he's hardly going to be the one to talk about it, or break down in the squad room. The other thing is, Gibbs sees it as something he *had* to do. If he did nothing, McGee was going to run right to the plane and die for certain. If Gibbs took action, McGee at least had a chance. It wasn't a good option by any means, but it sure as hell seemed like his only option, and the one most guaranteed to get his seasoned field agent to stop moving towards where he thought a teammate was being held captive by a dangerous criminal.
This week's episode showed the aftermath of that, though the physical healing seemed a bit unrealistic, and Gibbs and McGee were both doing the stoic man routine. Towards the end of the episode, Gibbs visits McGee at home (because McGee is off on medical leave) and they do talk their way through what happened, mostly. I think they both will have marks from this for quite a while, even if they don't address them beyond what has already happened, and I sincerely want to send them a T-American Emotional Trauma Aide. Seriously guys, *ow* on the emotional pain there.
As it is the last Thursday of the month, I thought I would take the time to review my New Year's Goals and see what I've accomplished so far. I plan on doing this every month, though going forward I will only list the new things I accomplish.
--I have done yoga 1 out of 4 Sundays, and managed skipping probably 75% of the scheduled days, though I have changed the goal to 6 minutes instead of 10. Hopefully this will make it easier to keep up with next month, and I can continue with the yoga, now that I've actually finally done a day.
--Even though I started the scarf in the dying days of December, it is using a ball of long owned yarn, so this goal is currently in progress. I don't know if the one ball I have is enough for a scarf, but I'm going to knit until I run out of yarn.
--I have met my daily goal for Duolingo all days but two: once not at all, and once I got half way. I have always gotten the Golden Owl in Hawaiian, so I'm pleased with the progress on this goal. :)
--I have an "emotional awareness" plan set, and I've rearranged it to be in the order I think will be most beneficial, though I may still need to tweak it some. I'm planning on posting what I have so far, just for some opinions and possible advice, but I don't know when I'll get around to that.
--I'm not sure exactly how many times I've done the dishes on the scheduled days, but I know it's been most of them, so I'm happy with this resolution too for the most part.
--I have cooked dinner every Monday so far, and posted about it in
cookbook_challenge, though sometimes I don't manage to post until Tuesday.
--I have not missed a Comfort Corner or a Thursday post yet, so go me!
--I haven't met my goal for doing updates yet this month, but as I still have a few days and the weekend, I'm hoping I can get them done. And if not, I at least have the files I need, so I can work on everything next month as well.
--The personal hygiene goals are going okay, though not necessarily as good as I would like. Much better than the later months in 2020 though, so I'm counting it as a win so far.
--I have made my savings goal 2 weeks out of 3 so far, with the off week being a lesser amount than target, but not $0, so I'm okay with that too.
--I made a bingo on the Fresh Starts Public Activity card, and it was a blackout to boot! I'm currently working on the Public Life card, and have some fills written, but no bingo yet, and I haven't posted any of them. I do plan on putting them up here, but I'm not entirely sure when that will happen.
--I finished my snowy puzzle from Christmas 2019, and both started AND finished my new puzzle from Christmas 2020.
-- I read "Goblins on the Prowl" by Bruce Coville, so my one book a month goal is on track, and it was a good book besides, though one geared towards the 9-12 years old range probably.
--I have started the bare bones of a plan for my temperature blanket, though it still has a ways to go. As of right now, I'm planning on making one for the months of June, July, and August, and I may do squares rather than rows, but I'd need to figure out what to do with the extra two days (I thought it would only be 90, and then remembered that July and August have 31 days -.-). I need to decide on temperature ranges and colours too, but I have plenty of time so I'm not worried.
How are you all doing so far? I hope you are having a good week, and a good January. :) *virtual hugs for any who want them*
