"Just Like Old Times (but better)"

Settle on the couch,
snacks to hand and sister nearby,
both almost disappearing under a mountain of blankets.

The first film cued up is an old favourite;
much loved and oft-watched,
so that lines can almost be quoted in time with the characters.

Next up is another re-watch,
but more in theme with the holiday.
And if they make it that far, a few new films, just recently out;
one with romance and one without, for variety's sake.

It's not often they have a chance to do this anymore,
and the passage of time has smoothed out the edges that once cut,
leaving them the peace to just enjoy the fun and the time together.

The poem fills the "forgive" square on my Mixed card for the Valentine's Bingo Fest.

"Possibilities"

Sometimes forgiveness is not about the other person, but about yourself.
Permission to let go of the anger and hurt; to acknowledge the wrong done but still decide
that you no longer wish to carry the burden of those emotions.

And in that release of resentment and hurt
is the possibility to build something new, something stronger.
To start over and do better, if the situation is right.

And if it is not, if ties must be cut, forgiveness allows a clean break.
The ability to say, "I am done with you and you no longer have any power over me."
Not forgetting, but allowing yourself the freedom to let the hurt fade and
begin anew, on a fresh path.
