Successful Weekend

Well, the gathering with my sister yesterday evening went well. Decorating Friday night wasn't bad and all the cleaning got done. The food came together fine and out of the seven of us there, there was only one person I didn't know. As far as "parties" go, it was actually pretty decent. Most of them are quieter people, and there were more card games than anything else. And no one pestered me to socialize or asked me nosy questions or demanded my energy in any way (which is usually how family gatherings go.)

On the down side, the gathering did highlight the other reason I don't like get togethers with people I don't know well. And actually, is perhaps a downside of fellow introvert-ish people; there wasn't really an effort made to include me, and I rarely approach people to ask. I did get asked to join one of the card games, which was nice, but I still felt a little left out most of the night. (More my sister's crowd than mine.) At least extroverts usually gathering you up in their ... them-ness. Ah well, I guess all things have pros and cons. Though I do think I like this kind of party better than the typical ones. Now I just have to see if I can make it happen with people I can and do want to interact with.

In other news, I did it! I actually got the Finish #1 in the Diamond League achievement from Duolingo! I'm super excited about that, and now I can take things at my own pace again, and not worry about the leader board. To anyone who might also want to try this acheivement, I have found that the league is less aggressive points-wise if you don't do a lesson right away. When I did a lesson just minutes into the start of the new league, I ended up with people who do more than 10K XP in a week. When I waited roughly twelve hours to do one (Monday morning instead of Sunday night at 9ish for me), I got leagues where the top XP was between 3000 and 5000, and I think I won the league today with 2770XP. Now, this might not hold true across the board, but if it helps, I figured I'd share just in case.

In other Duolingo news, the Esperanto course totally called out the fashion sector. 😆 One of the questions I had today was to translate the follow sentence into Esperanto: "Why do clothes for women not have pockets?" Ya guys, why *don't* clothes for women have pockets? We'd all like to know.

I did in fact try that re: waiting a day in Diamond League and still got in a Diamond League with people who had ridiculous XP by Wednesday, before the week was even over. I've written off the achievement. :P

Yeah, even though I myself am an introvert, I've noticed that get-togethers with fellow introverts, unless you know them really well, tend to leave the new person feeling kind of excluded. It's part of why I don't people XD;

Ah, it does seem to be entirely luck based then. I think I was only a week or two from writing off the achievement, myself.

I can see how that would end up happening in a group of introverts. Hmmm... I wonder if adding an ambivert would help things? Or possibly a curious introvert who likes meeting new people, as long as it's not in a giant crowd? I'm not sure how you would get that to happen on purpose though...

I get the not peopleing part. Sometimes it's just too much work, and too unrewarding.

I never understand why clothes for women lack pockets

They took away women's pockets when women started putting suffrage pamphlets in them. Women had had pockets for a thousand years! But the minute they start thinking they might have, you know, a VOICE in how things were run, nope! Not only did they beat women up for such evil ideas, they took away their pockets!

That is a thing I did not know. And it sounds like such a petty, control-freak thing to do. "You oppose our ideas? Let's make that harder for you."

I very much dislike greedy, power-hungry people. This might be why I avoid a lot of humanity.

I'm glad too. My sister and I can be a bit … at odds at times, so things going smoothly is never a guarantee. I can handle people, as long as there are bits of quiet to go to to escape the loudness if needed. I have a harder time with noise, and with high energy people.

Neither do I frankly. They would be useful.

Yes, though I think we could have benefited from one of Terramagne's Party Monitors. According to ysabetwordsmith, they can help liase between introverts so no one is lonely or left out.

I've wondered about the pocket thing. Even when women's clothes do have pockets, they tend to be too small and things just fall out of them. I don't know if woman carrying handbags is the cause or effect of lack of pockets.

Yes, I've had my share of tiny pockets, or worse, fake pockets (which is just a surface seem designed to look like the opening of a pocket but isn't.) I have a feeling it may be cyclical. "Women don't need pockets because they have handbags." "I (a woman) need a handbag because I have no pockets." And then it just goes around and around.
