[personal profile] conuly has created [community profile] cookbook_challenge, for those of us who have stacks and stacks of unused cookbooks (or bookmarked recipes) and could use some motivation in actually cooking in the coming year. If you want to join in, or just cheerlead, go give the community page a look; it has all the details!

Below is my current list of items that could be used to make a bingo card for this challenge. If you have any suggestions on what I should add, or perhaps things I should change, feel free to let me know. I plan on making a few community cards of different content and sizes, so there should be enough variety to suit most people. Of course, you can also make your own, or choose to ignore the cards altogether. To give time for suggestions, I'll probably wait until at least Monday before making and posting the cards.

made a recipe from a cookbook, made a bookmarked (internet) recipe, made a meat-free dish, It was a success! (would make again), learned something valuable, made a gluten-free dish, used chicken in a dish, used fresh vegetables in a dish, used fresh fruit in a dish, used a canned item in a dish, made a recipe outside my comfort zone, made a recipe from a different country/culture, made a breakfast recipe, made a dinner recipe, made a dessert, made something cold, made something hot, used (the same) cookbook more than once, used more than two cookbooks, used the same website more than once, made a recipe from more than two websites, used green ingredient(s), used beef in a dish, used seafood in a dish, used a new spice, made a dairy-free dish, made a sauce from scratch, used nuts in a dish, had a helper, made a dish with no help, had enough for leftovers, used a frozen ingredient, used rice in a dish, served all four food groups, served a single food group, used a new cooking method or tool, made a substitution, made no substitutions, made a community post about a recipe, made a post on my page about a recipe, used the oven, used a crockpot/slow cooker/instant pot, made a "no cooking required" dish, made a beverage, made a vintage recipe, made a holiday recipe, used locally sourced ingredients, used a cookbook that you own for the first time, made a recipe that came from a friend/neighbour/colleague, made a recipe from a specialty cookbook/website (microwave recipes or vegan cookbook for example), made a recipe from a cooking show

This sounds like fun.

A holiday recipe.

A recipe using locally sourced ingredients.

A recipe from a cookbook you own but have never used. Or a cooking website/TV series/etc. that you read/watch regularly.

A recipe you requested from a friend/neighbor/colleague.

A recipe from a specialty cookbook/website (microwave, slow cooker, desserts, bread, vegan, breakfast/brunch, gluten-free, cooking for two, cooking for one, cooking with children, cooking in your dorm room, etc.)

It would be good to have one card that avoids common allergens. I know people who are deathly allergic to seafood, dairy, peanuts, and wheat. I even know someone who got bit by a tick and developed an allergy to beef/pork/game.

I like these suggestions, though I wasn't sure if/how making a recipe from a tv series/cooking website would work with the challenge, so I've left that one off for now.

I'm always printing out recipes that sound interesting and mostly they sit in a file folder. Several file folders. Before the internet, I clipped recipes from newspapers and magazines and put them in recipe files.

I will do my best to create a card free of the most common allergens, but I will also be using alexseanchai's idea and letting people know that can swap out squares if they need to.

Sounds great. Thanks for making them for us.

If you already have the recipe when you find out about the challenge, it's fine... even if it's a recipe you copied off of a tv show. (Or made a note of to watch again later. I'd rather encourage people to get through their backlog than be a rules lawyer about something silly.)

If it fits in a square. Honestly, I think people generally understand the spirit of the challenge. If somebody wants to cheat to fill in a bingo square when there are no prizes for winning, that's their business. Seems a bit silly to me, but I don't care enough to... well, care.
