Much delayed and probably brief

So this is the weekly update that should have happened on Thursday, July 27, but I had so much stuff going on that I never posted it.

Last week I was on vacation from work because it was our yearly summer shutdown. I saw friends on Friday and Saturday, saw my grandma Sunday to Wednesday basically with most of Monday spent at home. Wednesday I also went to see my aunt for her birthday and while I was there I had a friend text me and ask if we could talk. Now, from that friend, that was a really alarming sentence and I immediately thought "Oh no, what terrible thing happened?" Apparently, that terrible thing was a good mutual friend passing away from a suspected heart attack. I'm doing okay for the most part, although it did hit me kind of hard today, and I will be going to the visitation tomorrow.

The rest of my vacation went well and will be detailed more in this week's update. All in all, my work-free week was pretty good, just had the unfortunate and shocking news of my friend's passing.

Hail and farewell

Had connection with same friend as technoshaman, and was at same Zoom memorial. One way I understand someone's worth is by looking at the people who knew them, and understanding what difference the person made in those people's lives. The subject of the memorial scored very high in both the quantity and quality of those interactions, which is why they were so well known in the circles we share.

I've also got a big load of extra cope and love from all who shared it at the memorial. Please let me know if some of it would do you good. I hope that your friend was as valued in their circles as my friend was.

That sounds like a lovely memorial for an even more lovely (and loved) person.

I have a feeling I might need some extra cope tomorrow. I'm expecting the visitation to make things more real and thus harder to deal with. My friend had a different sphere of influence than yours, but was valued by many and touched many people. They always made newcomers to the community feel welcome, and made a spot for everyone who didn't have any other place to fit. They also always had open arms and wise words for those of us that need them, and their loss is going to be felt by many, both near and far.
