July Monthly Review
Aug. 1st, 2025 01:20 pmJuly was a fun month, although I did feel like I didn't have enough energy for things a lot of the time. I especially notice this with social things, but it also crops up when I have a long list of chores to get done. I think I still did alright on my goals though, so look behind the cut for more details.
--Practice one language a month on Duolingo. French, German, Polish, Hawaiian, and Esperanto, then repeat.
---I practiced German in July.
--Complete 14 units in French, complete 8 legendary units in Polish, complete 6 units in Hawaiian, complete 8 Legendary units in Esperanto, complete 15 units in German.
---I finished five German units this month, for a total of nine so far this year. I have six units remaining to reach my yearly goal.
--Do yoga every day except Mondays.
---I missed six days of yoga this month, which is not ideal but is also not terrible.
--Do at least one 30 days of yoga challenge.
---Finished in June.
--Take one walk a week.
---I missed two weeks in July. I need to be more deliberate about this goal in August; it's been slipping my mind a lot lately.
--Make a weekly post on Thursdays and make the Comfort Corner posts on the first third and fifth Sundays of the month.
---I missed two Thursdays and was late on a third. I was also late on one of my Sunday posts because I was camping and totally forgot it was Sunday. This could definitely use some improvement in August.
--Cook once a week. I'd like to focus on healthier meals and ways to give myself more variety throughout the week.
---I cooked once a week in July.
--Do the dishes Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays as well as after any cooking or baking I do.
---I missed four days of dishes, which is not as bad as it could be. I'm awful at leaving enough time to do them and I despise doing them, so this one is always a hard goal.
--Water daily and weed weekly during the growing season (May to September probably).
---I didn't do as well with watering as I should have, but I did manage to go out weeding a few times. Still a lot of work to do there, but something is better than nothing.
--$X/week in savings.
---Success for July!
--Donate to charity once a month. Create the list by January 15 (done January 10).
---Done in July.
--Read fifteen books. Make a list by January 15 (done Jan 1).
---I did not read any books in July, sadly. I was completely sucked in by fanfic. I'm going to try to fix this in August.
--Play ten flute songs a month.
---I played eleven songs from my Shrek book. It's not my favourite book but I still had fun trying to play the songs.
--Work on old bingo cards.
---I have not felt the urge to write this year, so no progress yet.
--Finish the baby blanket I'm working on.
---Nothing further so far.
--Crochet a shawl by end of March.
---No crocheting in July.
--Get one colour of fabric cut for my quilt.
---I haven't yet made time for this one, still.
--Complete one puzzle. (Finished in April)
---No progress on the Easter egg puzzle.
--Take one "me" day a month. I'd like to plan these out this year so that I can make the most of them, rather than falling into them sideways.
---I don't remember saving a specific day for myself in July, although I did have time to relax. I will try to fix this in August.
--Go to an amusement park.
---Done in June.
--Do one outside activity a month.
---I went camping this month with my boyfriend! It was a very fun trip. We had good weather, went to the beach, did a lot of walking, and enjoyed each others company. :)
--Answer DW comments as I get them. Answer 5 per weekend to clear any backlog that may accumulate.
---I'm doing okay with comments, although I do have a few I need to respond to still.
--Fill in wall calendar with all recurring goals by January 15.
---Done January 13.
--Work on one slice of the Circle of Life. Have a plan by the end of January.
---No progress here.
--Mark daily tasks as they are completed. Write a monthly goal review at the end of each month.
---I'm still struggling to make things as I complete them, but I'm not doing too bad in catching up. My goal review for July is on time!
--Do one seasonal activity each season.
---Have not gone horseback riding yet, but I am going to try to schedule that for August.
--Have a maximum of four coffees a week. I'd like to keep an eye on my caffeine intake, so I figured this would be an easy way to start.
---This month was not great for coffee consumption. I will have two weeks on target, two weeks where I had one extra coffee (not terrible), and one week where I had four extra coffees (yikes). I'm really not sure what happened with my 8-coffee week, I just lost my will power that week I guess. On the plus side, the following week is a 4-coffee week, so I am back on track! This goal is doing okay, but I feel like I've had a lot of weeks with five coffees, so I may need to review things for next year.
--**--Random fun activity: My boyfriend and I went to a rodeo this month. It was a lot of fun to watch the events, but I regrettably got rather sunburnt since there was no shade and I forgot the sunscreen. It was still a fun day though, and I will be better prepared for next year!
All in all, July was rather status quo; no major leaps forward, no major collapses backwards. Hopefully in August I can gain some forward momentum and start making more progress.

Date: 2025-08-01 11:28 pm (UTC)Some of the goals are more flexible though, such as working on my fiber crafts or the seasonal goals. Others are very quick, such as my savings goal, but I like having a place to track them.

Date: 2025-08-04 01:45 am (UTC)Yeah, it's something I have been working on. I'm still finding new techniques for that.
>> I do find a lot of my goals are things I want to improve or do regularly, <<
Many of mine are "do X all year" which is unsatisfying until the year-end tally.
>> but some are "do X so many times." <<
I have found that very useful because it is concrete. I have a handful of that type of goal now.
Another option is to focus on a particular thing during a given month or season, then so something else. I know some people who have garden goals in summer and fibercraft goals in winter.
>> It'll be interesting for next year, that's for sure lol. <<
Go you!
I always spend time in November-January looking at posts about New Year's resolutions for ideas. It's how I hit on things like the one-day goals, which are super useful.
