Why do people things it's weird when I fidget or flap my hands? Why do they have to comment on it amd ask about it? Why is it so hard for me to remember to check if people can see me before reaching my hands behind my head (like you would to put a ponytail in) and twisting my hands back and forth at the wrist? Why can't I be less fidgety? Why can't I just be me without people making comments and making me feel strange and different?

Side note about the title of the post: the j sounds like a y, and it is Naa Vodo, but I don't have an accurate translation for it. What I'm realizing about Naa Vodo is that I can't translate it word for word, or sometimes at all. There are meanings and I can use it to express myself, but I can't really put any of it into English, other than a few words with dorect translations. I'm thinking if I use it enough, translating will be easier, but for me, I don't need an Englisb equivalent in order to use Naa Vodo.

The energy I get off the subject line is... Sweary frustration?

Thanks to Ysabet I :know:what flappyhands means... So when I last saw Alatefeline I knew they were excited (flappyhands and shining grin)... It's... A different dialect of body language, and while my (NT) body language vocabulary itself is average, I have NO TROUBLE getting NV dialects.

Hmmmm. :)

Comforting hugs, tea, or other frustration reducing actions offered.

(inner flappyhands) I couldn't remember whether I had gotten Alatefeline's pronoun right. I had WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT IT!

*hugs* and a cuppa Friday Afternoon's Quiet the Mind Rooibos-tea blend... and me! I'm good at grounding... ooh, something for when I have to not be here.... *conjures* a plush cat with some weight to it, and a wee Raspberry Pi unit between the shoulder blades with a touch screen, and an internal speaker... it's running a copy of the Purrli program, and the touch screen has sliders to control the parameters, and a power button.

Well... if and when I get out your way (I intend to do a filk con in Toronto at some point), and you see me and are all flappyhands, *I* will know what that is! And I suspect so would anyone else in Ysabet's community...

Better fidgets to google for: Crazy Aaron's Thinking Putty - my kids have a HUGE tin of Scarab, and I have a small tin of Moon Dust...
Also, Squigz! (some of those glow in the dark too!)

The putty is not slimy at all, but it is sticky, and does not play well with some fabrics, as our auxiliary bonus teen discovered... They just sat a glop on the sheet for 15 seconds, and it took half an hour of careful work and an ice cube to extract it. Cotton sport socks, however, are immune... If it was me i would stick {ahem) to non-porous surfaces.

Spinners are good and are mainstream enough now that they don't get look at funny... But I don't know of a good source personally.

Also, if you like rain there is a Rain Generator that I think is done by the same geek as did Purrli... The fun part about it is the generator is just that: a little piece of code that runs in your browser to make the noise. It downloads once, and after that doesn't use data.

I have a two-ended square-body spinner instead of the usual three-ended round-body, and there are two things I'd watch out for: first, the paint or metal coating does wear off over time and use; and second, the center cap can unscrew like mine does now and then. But since I keep the cap closed, the bearings are still good.

Sudden movement puts me in alert mode, and I usually want to find out if that's normal from the person who did it. I calm down a lot when I can associate things like mood to behavior. I do see the self-wrestling in anxious children, so I can associate that with an adult behavior. Thanks to Ysabet, I too understand that some flapping is happy, but I don't see a lot in my area.

The fun part about that one is? You can customize it to your own hearing and tastes, and then bookmark the link and send/sync it around to everywhere you might need rain...
