The carpet is thick, soft and cream coloured, while the walls are a yellow bronze colour. In the corner along one wall there is a large sofa, able to seat 4 or 5 people comfortably. Along the other corner wall there is a smaller sofa for 2 or 3 people. In the middle of the furniture, there is a low, round coffee table, perfect for colouring at or for other craft activities.

There is a scratching post and a cat tree for climbing, which are both along the wall opposite the couch. A few fluffy beds have also been put out, in varying sizes, in case any one prefers the floor. There is also a large sturdy perch and a marked off area that says "Landing Pad" in case any winged friends want to visit.

There is now a blue chaise chair in the nook as well, which has been placed near the couch and is good for both sitting and spreading out lengthwise. There are also two armchairs; one an oversized, deep gray leather chair, the other a square fabric armchair in deep blue with light purple swirls on it.

There are two baskets off to the side. One contains fuzzy blankets, a variety of fuzzy and textured pillows, and a collection of stuffed animals while the other contains a variety of art supplies, ranging from colouring pages and blank paper to crayons and coloured pencils, and more besides.

I have a good feeling about April. It was a good month and I think I made good progress on things. For a closer look at how I did, check behind the cut.

( April goal review )
fuzzyred: Me wearing my fuzzy red bathrobe. (Default)
Hello again everyone! I'm going to try to make this a coherent post, because I had a few things I wanted to talk about, but it's been a bit of a draining week at work, so we'll see how much brain power I have. First, regular business. I've done doing rather well at marking my daily tasks for April, which is a pleasant improvement. Yoga and duolingo are also both fairing well, although the dishes are not doing so hot. I have managed a weekly walk so far, although not for this week yet. Coffee consumption is also good, although this week has taken a bit of an increase, sadly. I'm hoping to correct that for the rest of the month, though. I have read one book and played flute once, and I have plans to do more of both things in the next few days. I have also knit the first fingerless glove for my partner, with hopes to start its pair soon.

I haven't found time to start yardwork yet, but that needs to be on my list for the next few days. I have a few gatherings coming up that will be fun, and hopefully not too overwhelming. I'm happy with my April goal progress so far, and hoping to carry that momentum into May.

Happy news: I got engaged! My partner set up a very sweet day for us and it was mostly unexpected. I'm very excited, although we are planning a longer engagement, so there is still lots of time for planning everything! :D :D :D

Introspective thoughts: I've been thinking a lot lately about how to get things done and it mostly boils down to, "I don't know what works for me." A youtube rabbit hole led to me looking up the definition of PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance) and the article I found had a line about demand avoidance in kids with ADHD. The paragraph and article link are below.

"A kid with ADHD might avoid doing the things they are asked, or may appear resistant, like a kid who fits into the PDA profile. Although, for a child with ADHD, avoidance is most often a secondary effect of difficulty with attention on tasks that they perceive as being boring, difficult, or overwhelming. For kids with ADHD, task initiation is a huge barrier, especially if there is something else more engaging for them that they could do, like continuing to play with their toys."
https://www.bakercenter.org/PDA

This really resonates with me, especially the bolded bit. I have a hard time getting myself to do the things that need to be done (e.g. dishes or weeding) and it can also impact things that would be beneficial but that feel boring or difficult (e.g. working out or eating healthier). I've tried setting rewards, but it's difficult for me to find something that is valuable enough to give motivation that I don't already do on a daily basis. Fro example, if I tried to limit my fanfic reading until after I had done the dishes or finished my workout, it would be a glorious disaster of me still reading fanfic and not doing the needed thing. I also haven't had a lot of success without external motivation, since being told to do the thing I'm attempting to do tends to lead to either annoyance or a build up of resentment for being made to do the un-fun thing.

I know a lot about how my brain works, and also what doesn't work for me, but I'm not really sure how to turn this into useful information. It doesn't have a huge impact on my life, but it does make things challenging sometimes and it would be nice to find a work around for when I need it.

I hope you all are doing well and you have a fabulous weekend! See you next time!

[personal profile] ysabetwordsmith is having a half-price sale in Polychrome Heroics this week. I am hosting a pool, if anyone is interested in joining me. My main targets will be all of the Shiv poems and "Our Homemade Safety Nets." If there is more interest, I would like to contribute to the open epic "No Faster or Firmer Friendships," then possibly Rutledge poems if people are interested.

I will leave the pool open until Saturday afternoon, then forward the funds on to Ysabet. If there is a specific poem you would like, let me know, and it can be added to the pool goals. If anyone needs my paypal info, comment here or pm me and I will sen it out.

Let's buy some poetry!

Hello everyone! April has been off to a good start so far, with very few missed days for on-going goals. I've had the week off for our Easter shutdown at work, but a lot of my time has been spent helping my sister get ready for her birthday party on Saturday. I have found time to do some relaxing though, and I've made very good progress on finishing up the stuffed animal for April's blanket project.

Tomorrow I'm doing lunch with my good friend, then going bowling with some coworkers and our significant others in the evening. Saturday will be my sister's party and then I hope to be able to relax some on Sunday. All in all it should be a good weekend before I need to go back to work on Monday.

Sadly, I haven't been able to make time for reading books on my break, but I have read a lot of fanfic, so I'm hoping I can focus on my books soon. I would also like to make time to start cleaning up the yard and possibly get a head start on some of the weeds. I have some fun things planned for later in the month, so I'm looking forward to that.

I hope all of you are doing well and your April is off to a good start! Talk to you all soon!

I don't seem to be doing much better with posting every two weeks, but at least I have managed this time. March has been a rather good month, with a lot of things going on. I have done decently at keeping up with yoga and the dishes, and Duolingo has been good like usual, if a bit less progress on the German course than I would like. I haven't read any books in March, but I did hit my quaterly goal already and I read a lot of fanfic. I have managed one flute practice so far, so I will need to fit the second one in before the end of the month.

On the topic of non-repeating goals, I have made good progress there as well. I finished the shawl I was knitting, although I do still need to block it. I'm very happy with how it turned out though, and I'm glad I finished it. I also finished my paint-by-number and am currently in the stage of touching it up to make it look prettier. Once that's done, I can attach the hanger and find a spot for it. :D Another thing I did was knit two dishcloths. This wasn't a goal, but I did have a coworker ask if I could make them, so I'm glad that project got finished.

There were also some fun things that happened in March. On March 14th, I got together with a group of my friends and celebrated "Pi Day" with a whole bunch of pies. They were delicious pies and it was a night of good socializing. The following day, I was able to take a day to myself to relax and also work on my March projects. Last weekend, my boyfriend and I drove up to a Fibre Fair that also happens to be near a waterfall. I bought some very pretty hand-dyed yarn, most of which I have a plan for. I managed to stay on target for number of skeins bought, although I did go slightly over budget because I mis-remembered the price of hand-dyed yarn. We did drive to the waterfall afterwards, but it was rather foggy and a bit rainy, so visibility was poor and we didn't hike down to the bottom. It was still a cool way to see the falls, and it was a lovely day spent in wonderful company.

Coming up, I have lunch with my good friend tomorrow, which is always lovely. In April I am going to be working on the yard and finishing up (finally) the baby blanket I started making well over a year ago, as well as starting my next round of books. I'm looking forward to the coming weeks and I hope they have good things in store for all of you, too. See you next time! :)

So far, February has been off to a good start. I've done okay keeping up with yoga and the dishes, and I got my first flute practice in early in the month. I have also read one book and started a second, which helps towards my goal of five books by the end of March. I have also been working on my shawl, although I definitely underestimated how much work was left, so finishing it this month might not be possible.

Coming up, I have lunch with a good friend planned, I have plans with my boyfriend for Valentine's day and my sister is putting something together on Sunday for a Galentine's day. It'll be a busy weekend but it should be a lot of fun.

For the rest of the month, I'm going to try to balance getting all my different things done and also finding time to relax. Hopefully I haven't over-scheduled myself and I can avoid feeling overwhelmed by a mountain of things. I'm doing okay so far, but I'm going to keep an eye on this as the year goes on and adjust as needed.

I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe and warm this winter! See you all soon!

It's time for my second post of January, and 2026. Things have been good the last couple weeks. Work has only had minor annoyances and I've been doing okay on my goals so far. I also saw my good friend a few times, and my boyfriend and I went to my company holiday party. We had a lot of fun and managed to avoid hangovers the next day, yay for moderation!

Things I've done in the last two weeks: worked on website updates for [personal profile] ysabetwordsmith, gone skating twice, saw a hockey game with my boyfriend, worked on my puzzle, did less yoga and fewer dishes than I should have, and read a lot of fanfic. I'm rather satisified with what I've gotten done, especially with the website updates, but I do need to focus on doing yoga more, instead of brushing it off.

I have a curling tournament coming up this weekend, which I'm looking forward to, although I'm not sure how well I'll play. I also want to work on my puzzle more and start my second book of the year. I need to practice my flute as well, which I may be able to do tomorrow.

I hope everyone is staying safe and warm in this cold, snowy weather. See you soon, take care!

I'm not sure what to call my recurring post, now that it's no longer weekly, but this is my first update post of the year. My January is going well so far and I'm pleased with my goal list for the year, both in content and in format. My holidays were also really good, with lots of family time and a bit of time for relaxing.

Being back to work after the holidays has gone okay so far, with no disasters yet. This Saturday, we have our work "Christmas" party, all it is after the holiday this year. It's usually a fun time and I have a new dress that I'm excited to wear. I'm also doing lunch with my good friend tomorrow, the first time this year and this first time since the holidays, so that will be very nice.

This week, I've been reading my book and working on my first puzzle of the year. Over the holiday, I finished my surprise Christmas book and I built a booknook kit I was given. I'd like to get out for a walk and possibly some skating this weekend, but we'll see how that goes.

I hope everyone had a good holiday and is staying safe! This post has been a bit short, but I'll try to make the next one longer. Take care, everyone!
