fuzzyredMy NaNo story for the day. It's shorter than the others, but today has been a bit of a rough day, and I wanted to at least get something written. I also wasn't sure how I was going to fill this prompt, so making this one shorter works that way too. I hope it still makes sense.

Floral Dresses
Sylvie sat at her desk, typing on her keyboard. Most people never saw her, though she was here five days a week, most often found behind this very desk. She took lunch like everyone else of course, but most of her day was spent here, just typing away.
She could do all kinds of things with her keyboard. She could request more supplies for the office when they were running low. She could re-arrange the schedules, making sure her bosses were never over-booked and always knew where they needed to be. She could organize a party or send a reminder about appropriate behaviour when issues arose.
She could walk through the hallways, getting polite hellos from all she passed, but few signs of recognition and even fewer who could give her name if asked. She heard the whispers sometimes, employees asking each other who the tall blonde was, the one who wore floral dresses almost year round, but none of them ever seemed to be able to say what she did. She was just “one of the office people”.
Sylvie would take her coffee and smile on her way back to her office. It never bothered her that no one knew who she was. She had her keyboard and her desk and she was content to sit there, typing away, easing far more of the processes that kept the company running than anyone realized. She thrilled in being quietly competent, unremarkable except for her dresses, but far more vital than they knew. One day, she would fulfill her dream of travelling the world, and she wondered if on that day, they would notice that they never replaced their keyboard ninja, or if they would only notice the absence of the floral dresses.
